Over the last few weeks I’ve been looking at the new 3D virtual environment “Exit Reality” and seeing how it can be used to enhance language learning.
At Avatar Languages we have started to encourage students to add to Wikipedia articles. We have chosen Simple English Wikipedia, which is a version of the online encyclopaedia that is written in a simplified style of English for non-native speakers.

There were 350 visitors from 28 countries (native speakers of 29 languages) who attended SLanguages 2008 last weekend. For those of you who missed the event, or perhaps some parts of it (it was 24 hours long!), the archive page of the conference website (www.slanguages.net/archive.php) now has most of the presentation available (with audios). Avatar Languages isn’t the only school to use Google Docs - The Guardian newspaper reports today that many UK schools and universities are starting to use free services from Google to enable virtual learning.

The second annual SLanguages conference has been announced for 23 and 24 May 2008. The conference has a website this year (www.slanguages.net) with information in various languages.
Avatar Languages is very pleased to be sponsoring this year’s event, which promises to be bigger and better than the 2007 conference.
The Avatar English website has now been translated into Polish and you can read all about the school just by clicking on the new white and red flag on the top right corner of the screen. A warm welcome to Poland!
